I recently had the opportunity to study with polymath artist Anita Chowdry in her London studio. She taught me how to prepare shell gold in the same Indian tradition that she was taught for manuscript painting in the Persian style.
The process is a very intriguing, albeit labor intensive preparation using gold leaf to achieve a very fine particulate gold paint. The resulting product has excellent fluid coverage which may be magnificently burnished or not.
I will be practicing this technique over the next few months and plan to post an article once I have more experience to share.
